Grains of Paradise, also known as Melegueta pepper or Guinea pepper, is a rare spice indigenous to the coastal regions of West Africa, from Sierra Leone to Angola. The Melegueta plant, however, is not related to the pepper vine but is a member of the ginger family. The sphere-like seeds of Grains of Paradise look very much like cardamom seeds. (Cardamom is also a member of the ginger family.) Grains of Paradise has a pungent flavor with a peppery bite and hints of cardamom and camphor. <br><br>Use it wherever an exotic pepper seasoning is needed, especially in the cuisine of North Africa, including Moroccan and Tunisian dishes. Frist, Melegueta Pepper is wonderful.Second, the information about the amount you will receive is deceptive and that ticks me off. I wrongly assumed, I would receive a "2-1/2 by 1-3/4 inch air tight tin" (8 cubic inches) filled with the Melegueta Pepper. Not so. You receive 1.2 ounces! The tin is not even half full. Deceptive. Lack of full disclosure.3 star rating is due to misleading the public or maybe, just me, to believe one would receive their tin full of the product being purchased.If you plan to order from Nirmala's call first and ask how many ounces you will receive of the product in the tin.Compared to other places, this was extremely expensive for a very small amount of product (I am not counting the other sellers on Amazon). I could have ordered Melegueta (Grains of Paradise) from a number of other sellers and received a 1 ounce bag for an average price of $3.10 for 1 ounce! I paid $7.50 for the pleasure of buying from Nirmala's. If the tin had been full then I would have paid a fair price. I am angry with myself and with the deceptive description from Nirmala's Kitchen.

While the product is what I wanted, the shipping was too late. The original shipping indicated that I should have received my pepper in time, but the shipper got the product to UPS late, therefore, I didn't get to use the pepper in the recipe and now I'll have to wait for another time to use it.
