An exquisite specimen of fine French pottery, this porcelain baker is simple in appearance with its milky white color, smooth finish, and ridged sides yet durable due to its proprietary time-tested ingredients and quality construction. The tart dish's pristine beauty and excellent temperature retention (both hot and cold) make it a wonderful serving vessel that goes from oven or refrigerator to table. Family-founded in 1818, the Pillivuyt porcelain factory still employs skilled artisans who use the original time-honored traditions of handcrafting each piece. I love the quality and appearance of this dish. I use it mainly for quiche, and it's perfect! It cleans up sooo easily, still looks like new and I've had it over a year. As the description states, it cooks evenly. My quiches turn out better than when I used to use a pie pan. In my opinion, you can't beat quality ceramic for cooking. One reason I chose porcelain over stoneware is the weight. I prefer the lighter weight of porcelain because it's easier to pick up, and does not add as much weight in my cupboard. I could have gone with a cheaper brand made in China, but I try to stay away from dishes made in China due to the lack of quality. I don't trust that the glazes will not contain lead. Also, the Pillivuyt company has been making their porcelain for a very long time, and the quality is definitely worth the additional cost. This dish will last a lifetime. I like it so much, I bought another in the 8" size!
