Note that these pans are fluted tart pans, meaning there is an indentation and outer ridge in the bottom. The bottom is not removable. The likely intended use for these would be to bake the item, flip it upside down and fill the indentation.These are not the same as the tart pans linked below.Wilton Perfect Results 4.75 Inch Round Tart/Quiche Pan, Set of 6

These work well. However, I do wish I had a better concept of what a four-inch tart pan size was before I ordered it. I just have to pile the filling high. :)

These tart pans look like the MATFER BOURGEAT 332233 Exopan Fresh Fruit Tart Mold. The photo of the pans on Amazon doesn't clearly show the raised base. The product packaging, however, does clearly show a picture of the fruit cakes that can be made using these pans. The seller should present a picture of the product packaging on Amazon, which would prevent people from wrongfully purchasing these pans, as in my case and the previous reviewer's case. I won't be returning these for a refund as I live in Hawaii and the cost of returns would be the equivalent of the purchase price of these tar pans. After a bit of research, I've found that I can use these pans to make a typical German fresh fruit cake. In fact, if you google "tortenboden", you will find lots of images of the pastry case baked using this type of tart pan. Essentially, fill the pans with a sponge cake batter and bake them. INVERT the sponge cakes and fill the shallow cavity with a thin layer of cream and top up with fresh fruits. Unfortunately I wanted to make French tarts, not German fruit cakes, and I now have one dozen of these tart pans that I will rarely use.
